The quick read
Why go
Zhonghua Road is central Taichung's late-night food street. Stalls have been here since the 1950s, and today they stretch about a kilometer along both sides of Zhonghua Road: decades-old fried noodles, gua bao, stinky tofu and oyster omelets, with some stalls open until about 4 a.m. When the other markets have shut, this is usually where there is still food.
To be honest, it is not what it was. There are far fewer stalls than a few years ago, there are long gaps between them, and they line a road that stays open to traffic, so it is not a market for strolling. The better plan is to head straight to the corner of Zhonghua Road and Taiwan Boulevard, where Three Generations Fried Noodles, A Quan Gua Bao and Zhonghua Stinky Tofu and Oyster Omelet face each other. If you are staying near Taichung Station or Yizhong Street and get hungry after midnight, this is the answer.

Where to find the top stalls
The market runs about a kilometer along Zhonghua Road Sections 1 and 2, with gaps where there are few or no stalls. Nick Kembel (2026) says it starts a few blocks northeast of the Google Maps pin. The easiest place to start is where Zhonghua Road Section 1 meets Taiwan Boulevard Section 1, where four well-known stalls face each other across the intersection.
Night-market stalls rarely have their own address. We describe each position only as our dated sources state it. If you cannot see it, show the sign text to a vendor nearby. Stalls move and hours change, so check before a special trip.
