Why go
Yizhong is the student market, planted next to a cluster of schools in central Taichung, and it runs on student economics: big portions, low prices, and trends that change by the semester. It is also far easier to reach than Fengjia if you are staying near Taichung Station.
The classic order is Fengren ice, a local institution, chased with a fried chicken cutlet and something from the braised-snack counters. Because it is a day-and-night shopping district rather than a pure night market, you can show up in the afternoon and roll straight into dinner.

Where to find the top stalls
The stalls sit on Yizhong Street and Yucai Street and the small lanes off them, near the main gate of Taichung First Senior High School. The corner by 上和園滷味 on Yucai Street is the busiest intersection.
Night-market stalls rarely have their own address. We describe each position only as our dated sources state it. If you cannot see it, show the sign text to a vendor nearby. Stalls move and hours change, so check before a special trip.

一中無名福州包
Where: A small stall with a yellow sign around the mouth of Yucai Street Lane 6. It sells out, and the queue starts around noon.
