Xiaobei Chenggong is the market for people who read the word 'crowds' in our other Tainan guides and winced. It is a smaller rotating market in the North District with the classic open-lot format, a manageable stall count, and room to actually walk.
Egg cakes, crispy chicken, seafood congee. Nothing exotic, everything comforting. On Friday nights it makes a genuinely pleasant alternative to the crush at the giant markets. One warning we repeat on purpose: this is not the Siaobei Tourist Night Market. Similar names, different places.
