Why go
Jilin is the small one, and small is the pitch. A compact neighborhood food street near Houyi station, north of Kaohsiung Main Station, where Japanese-style fried noodles and old-school eight-treasure ice justify the trip and nothing costs much of anything.
There is no shopping to speak of and no entertainment beyond watching the woks. That is the appeal. If the mega-markets exhaust you, Jilin is twenty relaxed minutes of very good, very cheap food among people who live around the corner.

Where to find the top stalls
Jilin Night Market runs mainly along Jilin Street in Sanmin, with Rehe Street and Yongji Street nearby, a short walk from Houyi MRT Exit 2. Stalls are listed by Jilin Street house number.
Night-market stalls rarely have their own address. We describe each position only as our dated sources state it. If you cannot see it, show the sign text to a vendor nearby. Stalls move and hours change, so check before a special trip.
