The quick read
Why go
Hsinchu's City God Temple food area is not a typical night market. It is a covered food court in the temple forecourt, plus old shops on the streets around it, serving smoked duck rice, braised pork rice, oyster omelets, spring rolls, grilled mochi and Hsinchu's own rice noodles and pork meatballs. Many of the stalls have been here for decades.
The catch is the clock. It runs from late morning into the evening; Google lists 21:00, and some shops close around 19:00, so it is nothing like a market that runs to midnight. It is best as lunch or an early dinner on a day out in Hsinchu, with a look inside the temple. It is mostly under cover, so rain is no problem.

Where to find the top stalls
The core is the covered temple forecourt (廟埕) in front of Hsinchu City God Temple at 75 Zhongshan Road, where stalls share seating; the oyster omelet stall sits under the opera stage with air-conditioned seats. More old shops line Zhongshan Road, Beimen Street and the lanes around the temple, some with a house number and some described only as around the temple.
Night-market stalls rarely have their own address. We describe each position only as our dated sources state it. If you cannot see it, show the sign text to a vendor nearby. Stalls move and hours change, so check before a special trip.
